About The East London Aquarium

History

The East London Aquarium was established and opened to the public in December 1931 by Dr Jacob Nanni and is to date the oldest Aquarium in South Africa.

The Aquarium has seen five Curators in its time and at present is under the management of Buffalo City’s Chief of Marine Services, Mrs Siani Tinley.

FELA

FELA (Friends of the East London Aquarium) is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1992 by the Curator at the time, Mr Willie Maritz, with the objective of assisting in fundraising and attracting sponsors for the upgrading of the Aquarium.
